Plaid Cymru’s North Wales AM Llyr Gruffydd has praised shoppers at Tesco’s superstore in Abergele for their donations to the local foodbank.
Store staff and local volunteers combined to ensure trolleys of food were collected in a special Christmas appeal last weekend.
The work was coordinated by the store’s community champion Jan Williams and store manager Hannah Calley together with volunteers from the foodbank.
Surplus food from the store is also being donated to Food Connect and the following projects will also benefit – the North Coast Church Rhyl, West Rhyl Young People’s Project, Abergele Day Centre and Ty Golau.
Llyr Gruffydd said: “Staff at Tesco are always among the most welcoming and constantly involved in community and charitable work. I’m sure many people will benefit from this food collection before Christmas – it’s a sad reflection on the state of society that these initiatives are needed but the contribution of volunteers and staff alike cannot be underestimated. They deserve huge praise.”
