Commenting on this year’s GCSE results, Plaid Cymru Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education Llyr Gruffydd said, “Congratulations to students, teachers and families who are celebrating their GCSE results today. These results are a culmination of students’ hard work and careful preparation by the teachers, and we applaud their commitment.
“We know that the new system will take some time to bed down and this will show in the results. The Welsh Government now needs to consider these results and what they mean for students who are sitting GCSEs next year and the year after.
“Plaid Cymru wants to see every student in Wales reach their potential, and, in order to achieve this, we will continue to call on the government to place a greater focus on getting students in high-quality education from the very early years, on monitoring student’s progress and on intervening speedily when students begin to fall behind.”
