Calls to speed up plans to improve a notorious bend on a Denbighshire road have been made by Llyr Gruffydd AM.
The North Wales Plaid Cymru AM said that an announcement just before Christmas by the Welsh Government of improvements at the Maes Gamedd bends at Gwyddelwern was a step in the right direction.
Mr Gruffydd, who is based in Ruthin, said: “This is a long-standing issue for local people. The A494 is a busy road and the Maes Gamedd bends are recognised as a problem as you approach Gwyddelwern. It’s now almost four years since the community council raised concerns about safety on this dangerous bend with me. I invited the Transport Minister Edwina Hart at the time for a site visit back in February 2015 so that she could see the problem for herself. While she accepted it was a problem that needed fixing, nothing tangible happened.
“I’ve been pressing for action ever since. It’s been a tortuously slow process and the recent communication by her successor Ken Skates is welcome, even if progress seems to be taking place at a snail’s pace. I’d urge the Welsh Government to speed up the process so that this dangerous bend is made safer as soon as possible.”
